DLF Digitalizes Data, Upgrades ERP

The Rs 700-crore construction company DLF Laing O’Rourke provides engineering and construction services across India. Currently is has over 25 projects including housing, malls, commercial offices and SEZs. Each of these projects are independent, but their staff interact with central functions such as finance and accounts at the company’s head office. The projects generate a high number of financial documents including bank payments, invoices and journal vouchers. As the business grew, so did the numbers of documents.

Case Study about Construction Trend: Competitive Sealed Proposals

In 2007, the Texas legislature amended the Local Government Code, Selecting Contractor for Construction Services Through Competitive Sealed Proposals, to add Competitive Sealed Proposals (CSP) as a procurement method for civil engineering construction projects. Competitive Sealed Proposals offer the opportunity to select a contractor for municipal projects based on best value instead of simply the lowest price. Yet, CSPs still yield a competitive bid scenario that differs from the traditional way of procuring contractors.

The traditional design-bid-build (DBB) process is the most common way to procure a contractor for municipal projects. Although in theory it is possible to not select the lowest bid price in the DBB process, in practice it is difficult. Not awarding the contractor with lowest bid can result in litigation and owners can be left with marginally-qualified contractors. The new CSP process follows the same order as the traditional process of procuring a contractor with the exception of a Request for Proposals (RFP) instead of an Invitation to Bidders. Keep reading…

Challenge: Turner Construction, a leader in the construction services field, needed an innovative platform to educate 5,000 employees on a variety of industry and company topics. Among its most pressing needs: ensuring higher levels of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance and knowledge-sharing among its 7,000 “channel partners,” or subcontractors.Along with delivering educational content, the company also required a means to monitor and track the performance and success of its learning system.
